Who are we?
Jamie is a PhD candidate in computer science and aspiring gastronome.
Laura is a future med student and health policy nerd working hard to Jamie in line.
Why "Big Chef, Little Chef"?
The name stems from a Florida vacation, where we were cooking up a storm for family and friends. We have a tough time sharing the kitchen, therefore Laura volunteered to be Little Chef (roughly translated: sous chef), allowing Jamie the glory of the Big Chef role. In the end, Little Chef's hummus was the hit of the night (sorry, Big Chef), and the names stuck.
Why blog?
There is something you may not know about Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: although it definitely has its strengths, entertainment options are limited to be sure. Plus we no longer have cable. And our landlord doesn't allow pets. So far we've been using food to fill the void.
Why food?
Since joining a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group this year, we've found ourselves spending a lot of time thinking about healthy, tasty meals using fresh, local produce. We feel that we've come up with some exciting menu items, and we want to share them with whoever may be interested. Although we will also chronicle our fair share of failures and catastrophes.
